Jason Lawless & Joy Open Patch Run

Patch run supports Jason’s funeral expenses and Joy’s care with her new family.

Open patch run to support funeral expenses for Jason Lawless’ funeral and to support his dog Joy and her new family. Jason was a Biker Scout with the Southern California Garrison and very active in the garrison contributing greatly both as a trooper and artist.

Order by Februray 3 2020 8pm

FROM THE 501ST SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA GARRISON

Thank you to everyone for wanting to find a way to honor Jason and we hope this patch will go a small way to fill a big void we now have in our Garrison and lives. We think Justin said it best with "this really captures Jason's energy and personality" and we look forward to seeing it on jackets and vests at future troops and events!

Proceeds with go to cover :

1. Funeral expenses very soon that we all as a Garrison would like to help with!
2. Helping to take care of Jason's dog Joy who is being adopted by a close friend! We would love for her new handlers to be covered on dog food at least for a very long time. Joy was his life and if we can help take care of Joy then we help take care of him.

Troop Log:

3 days of Star Wars ! This was Scums 1st big Star Wars focused event and it was super amazing! It is always an extreme pleasure to hang out with the Droid Builders and our Sister clubs Mandalorian Mercs, Saber Guild, 501st Legion and Rebel Legion members. Please check out the Build It page for information on joining one or more of these amazing clubs!

It is a really pleasant experience to hang around genuine Star Wars fans, we all have something in common so we are automatically best-ies. It is different than the regular cons in that the is that unified genuine love and interest the droids. It is always our hope to inspire others to look into building their own and always a pleasure to discuss it with those that have or have started. A common issue is actually finding time to finish one. If anyone is like Ardy Jo, she desires that creativity and excitement aspect of building things, which is kind of a sweet spot that is hard to explain and even harder to fabricate, it just is there when its there and isn’t when it isn’t.

Day 1

We had 2 R2-D2s , RD-QD and Monster Inferno MSE. The booth was a nice roomy area and we had some awesome photo back drops for guests. We also had a nice display of a work in progress R2 for guests. Friday wasn’t so busy crowd wise. Ardy Jo chatted with Mr. Craig Miller who was promoting his new book “Star Wars Memories: My Time In The (Death Star) Trenches” (which can be found on Amazon).

The after party was the being George Lucas party with plaid projectors and the holiday special playing while the DJ blasted some beats. The Monster Inferno MSE had fun dancing with the balloons!

Day 2

Chopper from the Bakersfield Droid Builders joined us! The builders held a build panel in the afternoon with a very small group in attendance. Those that did attend enjoyed talking to the builders after and taking that exclusive peak inside R2. The Scarif Tiki After Party was poppin and Monster MSE had a blast dancing with the palm trees :)

Whilst Ardyjo was romping through the Dealers Hall again she picked up Mr. Craig Millers book again he very nicely signed it for her. Later Frazer Diamond popped out from behind his booth and asked for a picture of the Monster Inferno MSE which striked up a conversation that he was there as he played one of the Jawas in A New Hope when he was 7 years old. He indicated he was the one with the droid caller on the sand crawler scene. Ardy Jo had luckily enough brought her replica with her and was able to get him to sign it! Too bad it wasn’t a legitimate replica but all the same an awesome piece to add to the collection :)

Day 3

Day 3 we were down to 3 Astromechs & the MSE. We were able to make the group photo with the Rebel Legion/501, Mandalorian and Saber Guild. While we were out there we got to mingle Angie Mayhew, Jim Cummings and Christopher Sean.

Troop Summary:

It was awesome having the troops out again for a local event.. Other than waiting around forever for it to start… Unfortunately the droids under performed. BB8E kept rolling off his transport with the rickity road incline and the Monster MSE smashing into it was the last straw… So Jawas and droids barely made it a 1/4 way down the route :( we will fix it !

Crowd loved the troopers. This was ArdyJos first troop as Commander Versio and everything worked out, some minor fixes and adjustments.

RX-24 Build Complete

Captain Rex, Star Tours pilot replica completed.

Captain Rex was completed and assembled in time to make it to R2LA 16.

Krank installed servos to operate vertical neck movement including head wobble and visor open/close!

Still needs some tweeking of coarse. Rex also has sound activated mouth LEDs and eye LEDs.

He sits on top of a custom 12v 2.4GHz Radio controlled cart so he can be driven around. His motors need to be upgraded but he does move!

Overall we are pleased with the build. As always, it has some imperfections especially since he is 3D printed.

Special thanks to Gordon Tarpley for sharing the wonder that is Alcald Chrome. It really made the build we think. Check him out on YouTube and social media!

Summary:

Droid Builders as part of the Space Expo with the Columbia Space Center! We mingled with guests Saturday & Sunday taking about building droid, cosplay and all that fun stuff!

If interested in building, please visit the Build It webpage for links to the various resources available in the different builder groups!

As usual we had more droids & display on Saturday but overall we had a really decent booth with astromechs, BB8, WIP DI0, MSE droids, B1 battle droid and Jawa Prop. Also had a front row seat to the wrestling area where Rakishi was posted all weekend signing autographs. A really awesome Gonk even stopped by on Sunday to hang out.

The droid races were near disastrous for 24v RD-2D who smoked everyone on take off but almost face planted after overshooting the cone… eeee!! Mousers popped some parts and need repairs. Had several interviews including KTLA. Hopefully we get some droid builders out of it!

Scum Summary

Meet the Star Wars Fan Groups Program @ Comic Con Museum

FAN GROUPS - visit the BUILD IT page for links to the different group pages etc. and learn how to become a member ! THEY ARE ALL FREE TO JOIN!

Representatives from the Droid Builders, Mandalorian Mercs, 501st Legion, Saber Guild and Rebel Legion Fan Groups had the awesome experience of leading panel discussion at the pop-up museum event for Comic Con this year! The museum was an incredible place with a perk of being filled with an awesome Batman exhibit. Unfortunately we were in such a hurry to hit the panel and hitch a ride back to the convention center we couldn’t explore — did see an awesome bat signal that I really need in my life haha

The fan group panel was super awesome. Best panel I’ve seen (participated in). Love hanging out with all the different clubs and working together. It adds so much diversity to a program as a unified group of Star Wars fans. Actually learned about how the clubs are the same & different, which is super beneficial as we often discuss it when mingling with fans and encourage joining of any and all clubs.

Some highlights was the uniqueness of the Saber Guild and Mandalorian Mercs in regards to costume customization freedom compared to the screen accurate requirements of the Rebel or 501st Legion. It is so interesting and awesome to have so much variety. Also awesome to learn is how the Saber Guild has practice weekly for their performances (something we haven’t been lucky enough to catch to date). So many great groups and awesome costumes available for anyone to build. Ardy Jo was repping the Droid Builders and didn’t crash and burn … so that was good. The droids added a nice touch to the panel we thought. Hopefully everyone gets some new recruits ! Ardy Jo is still finishing up a Rebel Legion Jawa and 501st Legion Inferno Squad …

  • Clubs are free to join

  • Most/all have mentoring groups etc. to provide support in joining and builds

Mondo Gallery: 80 Years of Batman, the first ever traveling exhibit from the Mondo Gallery in Austin, Texas, celebrating the history of Batman through 19 iconic and fan-favorite comic-book covers, reproduced as screen-printed posters.

The Con

After the program the droids made it back to the convention center, which was awesome that the center provided handicap transportation for us and the droid!!!!! Per usual we wander around aimlessly … we did actually make it to the Brian Rood Art booth to hang out with our droid builder buddy and mooch some power for the MSE. Check out Brian Rood Art —- great star wars art! Ate some ok convention pizza and nachos and that was about it!
